With the new server and MG PRO how do I add back my Cubase macros

W11 - Cubase 15 - I have several user macros that I was using with the generic remote. How do I get access to those in the new Midi remote? THe button is assigned the macro, but it does not play the macro in Cubase. THe macro is in Cubase already, I had it assigned in the generic remote.

We don’t touch your Generic Remote files - I believe you have added your macros in your Metasystem_macro.xml and metasystem_macro2.xml, right? Just locate these files in the new MetaServer.

I decided now to start fresh, I have the directory now looking at the macros files in the metagrid folder rather than my custom folder.

THe old way, i had a generic that told macro 7 to run a command that was a macro and then the name of the macro.

What is the equivalent for the midi remote? In MG it picks out Macro 7, do i rename that in the macros.xml file? or is there a place to define what macro 7 is?

You custom macros are handled in the old way - there is no equivalent for that in MIDI Remote world - creating an interface for MIDI Remote for user configurable items (hundreds of them) is not feasible for smooth user experience - that’s way these two Generic Remotes are staying even though we migrated the core functionalities to MIDI Remotes.

OKay, so I need to keep the generic remotes in Cubase? I changed the input to nothing, but I can change that back.

WHat happens though when Cubase no longer supports generic remotes? I can recreate the macros in MG directly, but that would take a lot of time.

We have heard that it seems that for now Steinberg is not going to retire Generic Remotes - too many people rely on them I guess. If they do, we will do MIDI Remote devices for these.

In the meantime, I can slowly recreate the macros in MG

Just a thought, have scaled down remote for user macros. Maybe have 10-20 user macros for now. No need to cover 200 or more at first!!

THe good news is that I was able to reuse the generic setup and get my macros to work again.

20-30 macros totally ok for MIDI Remote - so with Generic Remote sunset we will create the device.
