Cubase: Transition to MIDI Remote Controllers

🎉 Good News for Cubase Users! ![:musical_keyboard:|16x16]

We’re thrilled to announce the transition from Generic Remote controllers to our custom MIDI Remote controllers in MetaGrid Pro! 🚀

Here’s what’s new:

👉 Two Custom MIDI Remote Devices

  1. MetaGrid Pro Selected Channel

• Supports bi-directional communication on the new Metasystem - Cubase Sync MIDI port.

• Bonus: This frees up the Metasystem - MIDI port for your notes and CCs on tracks. 🎵

  1. MetaGrid Pro Commands

• Continues to support all your previous command assignments, ensuring smooth compatibility with the previous command assignments.

👉 Scenes and Macros

• These remain in the Generic Remote XML, as the MIDI Remote API requires separate MIDI ports for each controller and lacks a user-friendly interface for managing command assignments.

🛠 Beta 3 has already started!

The new controllers are fully complete and ready for testing! 🎉

Get ready for a smoother, more streamlined workflow with MetaGrid Pro and Cubase. Stay tuned for updates!

How can I be a part of the beta?

Looks Great! :sunglasses: But for the Scenes and Macros grids, what would be the path forward once Steinberg discontinues Generic Remote? I don’t know when they’ll do it, but in Cubase it does mention that it will be discontinued.

@VJThomas We will create another MIDI port and another MIDI Remote device to handle this - but this will be very clumsy with hundreds of assignable tiny buttons with no numbering/labels - that’s the limitation of MIDI Remote.

Yeah, I see what you mean. With all the macros and scenes it would be a lot of buttons. May be the situation can be helped a little by adding the buttons in a logical grid. For eg. having only 10 Columns of buttons so that it’s a little easier to count in the grid matrix . And the first 40 Rows can be the Macros and the next 10 Rows can be the Scenes. It can further be visually distinguished by making the Macros buttons Round and the Scenes buttons Rectangle or vice versa. Just throwing out some ideas out there :slightly_smiling_face:

yes, that’s the plan - but for now, let’s keep the GRs and your custom stuff so you don’t have to do reassignments as long as it is absolutely necessary.
