Hi, since version 1.6.14, the Omnispace is apparently unable to send “global” key commands to macOS
With global key command I mean key commands that are directed to an application that isn’t in focus but is programmed to have some function be triggered by key commands even when it’s not in foreground.
A good example of this are the Zoom shortcut for mute/unmute mic, start/stop video and share video that can be programmed to be global, i.e. to function even when the Zoom application is in the background. I’ve used the global shortcuts that I’ve assigned in the Zoom settings window since I started using Metagrid more than 5 years ago. They worked every time but now what I discovered is that since version 1.6.14 they work only if the Zoom application is in the foreground.
This problem is still present in version 1.6.15.
The only workaround I’ve found so far is to create Keyboard Maestro that sends this global shortcuts (or activate the corresponding function) and then assigning the Metagrid button to trigger the Keyboard Maestro macro.
In version 1.6.13 global keyboard commands worked flawlessly, as they always have worked since I started using Metagrid
@Project Hae you upgraded to macOS26? Perphaps that’s the reason - sth with permissions? We can’t replicate this on our end - we trigger global commands every day. We will need the logs from your systems (MGP and MetaServer) - can you please trigger some global commands and send us the logs from MetaGrid Pro and MetaServer.
@MetaGrid_Admin thanks for your reply. I’ve sent you the logs; also please consider:
I have 2 iPads, one of which I upgraded a week or so ago to 1.6.14 and the problem manifested itself, while on the other iPad, running 1.6.13, I could still send global key commands.
I then downgraded back to 1.6.13 on the first iPad and global keyboard commands started to work again.
I then upgraded the first iPad to 1.6.15 and I could not send global keyboard shortcuts again. The shortcuts are sent, and they work, only if the target application (Zoom in this case) is in the foreground.
I haven’t upgraded to macOS 26, I’m still at 14.7.2
My Omnispace workspace is more or less the same since 2020 (Metagrid classic era, I imported it in MGP years later) and global keyboard shortcuts have always worked.
I found a workaround for now that is to have Keyboard Maestro to send the keyboard shortcuts and use the buttons on MGP to trigger the corresponding Keyboard Maestro macro; when I programmed the original Omnispace that wasn’t possibile, and I didn’t have the need to change it in all these years
