MGP only sending keyboard shortcuts to focussed application, despite Target Application being set

I’m very new to MGP, and finding it v. difficult to setup… seems like it could be quite powerful, I’m coming from Soundflow…

Pretty much all I want to do with it for the timebeing is have 5 pages of grids for a single application and have them constantly displayed on my ipad without switching for each application.

In the content manager I have made a profile for the program I want to control, with a single workspace and 5x grids.
To stop the grids from changing to each different app on the mac that is in focus, I have used the lock button to stay on my chosen program (with the 5 grids)
The grids seem to work fine when the program is in focus, but when any other program is in focus the buttons on the grids don’t work… the button’s have a target application for macro set which is the program I want to control…
I can’t understand why it is not sending the macros (keyboard shortcuts and keyboard maestro macros) to the program?

Also as a side note when I’m triggering KM macros what should the ‘Target Application for Macros’ be? atm seems to make no difference, if program is not in focus it is not receiving KM macros for keyboard shortcuts

Hi Anders - first of all, welcome to the forum and to MetaGrid Pro family. I would need more info - what application you would like to control in the lock mode.

When triggering the KM macros you don’t have to specify the target application - it talks directly to KM. What kind of KM macro triggering scenario you have in mind? Do you trigger KM by keyboard shortcuts or are using MGP integration with KM?

Also for your scenario, you don’t have to create the new profile - just create a new workspace for the Desktop profile, remove all other profiles so Metagrid Pro will not switch the profiles so this profile will always stay “lock” without the need to lock it. Also you can use the OmniSpace profile for your scenario - it will also stay locked all the time regardless of the application in focus.

Hi, thanks for your help and for the information…

I’m triggering KM through the MGP integration… when I trigger with Soundminer (the application I’m trying to use) focussed then all works fine… when another application is focused the KM commands aren’t working from MGP (same with keyboard shortcuts for Soundminer). I have checked using KM editor and whether Soundminer is focused or not the macros work fine by firing them from the KM editor…

So it seems could be some issue maybe with MGP server not sending out commands to non focused applications?

@Anders Indeed there was a "hole’ in our implementation for the Lock mode - basically, when you MGP disregarded the Target App parameter when the grid was in the Lock mode and directed all macros to the app in focus. This has been identified and will be fixed in the next release.

This relates to the keyboard shortcuts - however, I can’t replicate this for KM. Basically, KM macros should have Target App unchanged (Desktop) because they are not targeted anywhere - they are system actions received by MacOS regardless of the application in focus. We have tested it on multiple test systems and the KM macros are always triggering regardless of the application that is in focus. Can you once more describe your steps with KM macros? How the button is setup etc.
