Hi, new to metagrid so please forgive me if this has been asked before, I am running metagrid pro on an intel imac mini which has two dell 27" touchscreens connected, they are being run by UPDD, this is a secondary computer away from my main mac studio running nuendo. The actual communication between the mac and the touchscreens is working fine, I have meta grid pro installed on the mac mini and the meta server on my mac studio, it connects fine and is running the cubase template well on one of the screens, however i would like to be able to see seperate tabs of the the cubase metagrid on the two different monitors, is this possible, I dont have any ipads etc but I do have another macbook pro if that could some how work, Ideally in theory should it not be a relatively simple thing to do to just break off a tab from metagrid and move it to another monitor? Any help much appreciated, thanks. ( I did try installing metagrid on my macbook pro as well, opening up an instance of cubase template here, then connecting macbook pro to mac studio metaserver as well as the mac mini, it all connected but couldnt get the version of metagrid on laptop to show on the second monitor of the mac mini - im guessing this is a way to potentially do what Im after but maybe Im missing something here, thanks. )
Welcome! Good question, and you’re not missing anything obvious — what you’re describing isn’t currently possible in MGP, but let me explain why and what the options are.
Why it’s not straightforward: MGP is built on Mac Catalyst, which means it inherits iPad’s single-window model by default. Supporting multiple independent windows (each showing a different grid) is technically possible on macOS, but it touches a lot of core systems — active profile state, MIDI routing, the MetaServer connection, edit mode behavior — all of which currently assume one active view. It’s on my radar as a longer-term feature, but it’s a significant project, not a quick toggle.
Your MacBook approach was close. Two MGP instances connecting to the same MetaServer is supported and works — that part you got right. The piece that didn’t work is getting the MacBook’s screen onto your Mac Mini’s second monitor, which isn’t really an MGP problem. Tools like Luna Display, Duet Display, or even built-in macOS Screen Sharing could bridge that gap. If you go this route, each MGP instance can show a different Cubase grid, and both will drive the same Nuendo session via MetaServer.
One thing to be aware of with two MGP instances on the same DAW: any feedback/state updates from Cubase will go to both — that’s usually fine, but worth knowing.
Thanks for the detailed reply, much appreciated ![]()
