I am trying to run the MG mac app on my Mac mini with a touch screen that is connected to my main mac pro via a static IP and ethernet cable (that’s how I got my OSC working and controlling cubase with the use of Midi Network Setup ) I I was wondering how do I go about using MG in that way, do i need wifi for them to connect as i tried but to no go, any help would be much appreciated
Your Mac Mini should find your Mac Pro on WiFi if they are on the same network. Theoretically, MGP should find your Mac Pro through static address if you configure it manually. Make sure you don’t have the “USB only” option enabled in MetaServer.
Anyway to get the App to connect via ethernet ? as if there is no wifi, it will not work, I have tried using wifi with no static ip and its a no go, it didn’t find my main mac
Thanks for the info. So to summarize:
- You tried to enter the static IP in MGP on your Mac Mini, right? I guess you don’t have MetaServer running on your Mac Mini, right?
- When you enabled your WiFi connection on your Mac Pro, MGP on your Mac Mini can’t find the server on Mac Pro even though the USB only is disabled in MetaServer running on Mac Pro.
Please confirm.
To check:
- Can you make sure “Enable TCP” in MetaServer > Setup… > Network is disabled and check it again.
- Can you run MetaServer only on your Mac Mini and see if the MetaGrid Pro on your Mac Pro can find the server?

correct, i have tried both static and DHCP also if i have Metaserver on the mac mini, it asking to connect to the mini - When you enabled your WiFi connection on your Mac Pro, MGP on your Mac Mini can’t find the server on Mac Pro even though the USB only is disabled in MetaServer running on Mac Pro. - Correct
Please confirm.
To check:
- Can you make sure “Enable TCP” in MetaServer > Setup… > Network is disabled and check it again. - Done

Getting a msg "Can’t find this computer on your network 4.0.0.0 or Later
No luck so far
Which MetaServer version have you got? It seems that it is not the latest one - at least on Mac Mini.
The latest one on both machine, i have downloaded from the site and them performed an updated to the server
OK, Frank - we will start debugging that starting tomorrow. It works well on our test systems with multiple devices connected - works like a charm. We will make it work on your setup as well - something is blocking the communication. We will have to figure out what.
