My Every-Few-Months Feature & Bug list

Here’s a few ideas/observations that have come up in the last few months:

Have you guys considered:
• Creating borders for groups of buttons to delineate them visually? Like one big border surrounding four or six or eight buttons that are tied to the same general task.
• Bulk formatting? Say you want to change the type size on a bunch of elements, you could select them and do the change in one go.
• Allowing a swipe or key command to switch between primary and secondary grids? This would be especially helpful in Grid Only mode.

Little inconsistencies that have come up:
• When a button or other element is cleared, it leaves the grid underneath fully split. Would it be possible to clear something and leave the cleared area merged in the same way as what’s been cleared?
• When changing button layouts, a whole bunch of elements change at once. Is there a way to keep everything intact when changing layouts? The one that comes up the most is text. There’s a default setting for each layout that might be very different than what’s currently set.

Bugs?
• When I assign buttons to a particular application they often stop working because MGP doesn’t see all the apps on my computer (even using the Search field doesn’t find them). Sometimes the list is only a couple apps long when there should be hundreds. It’s totally random and especially common when a button is assigned to a different app than the one that’s currently active. I can resolve this by re-starting MGP, but the issue will come back at some random point.
• Super nitpicky one. In Metagrid: LE Macros for Cubase “Copy Notes: Oct Above” still doesn’t work.

Last question: Is there a way to update the Metagrid Macros for Cubase to match what’s currently in Cubase? There are quite a few that are missing, plus Steinberg has changed the wording on a number of them. I know Steinberg isn’t the most receptive or responsive company, so I get it if you’ve needed info from them to update anything.

That’s it! It’s getting remarkably easy to convert people to MGP once I show them what it can do. Keep up the great work!

M.

Thanks a lot for this list. Here are my answers:

That’s on our To do list for 1.7.x - you will be able to add graphic sections for borders / fill.

That’s why we have the Paste Style functionality, right? With 1.6.14 it is going to be more straightforward I guess.

You already can assign a keyboard shortcut for toggling between primary and secondary grids. In MetaServer - Setup - Key Shortcuts - Toggle Grids - or you can see our Apple Script implementations or KM macros.

That was a design choice - “Clear” removes the object and splits the area since it is the most typical scenario for the users. Of course, we can easily modify this behaviour but I think that clearing plus splitting is the most typical action the user needs. Open for discussion though.

We will reexamine the logic and remove the auto changes (were ment to help but it seems they are problematic :-)). We will do this for 1.6.x.

OK, this needs revisiting as well.

Point taken

We will do this for Cubase 15.

So happy about this M.! Would love to see your workflow with MGP - we would all learn a lot from that  .

Thanks for responding. I appreciate it. Regarding the switch between Primary & Secondary grids, I’m always amazed when I learn about a feature that already exists in software I use every day! I’ve gone through the MGP manual at least three times and tried every feature and this STILL got past me. Heck, I’ve been using Macs for decades and even though I’ve automated Finder into oblivion I still regularly stumble across functions I didn’t know about! :joy: :joy: Goes to show it always helps to ask!

I’v been thinking the first point myself. Borders for button groups will greatly help in quick visual distinction.
