MGP crash issue without any interaction

Hi,
Running the latest version of MGP (1.6.15) on M2 iPad Pro (iPad OS 26.1) and Metaserver (5.3.4) on MacOS 15.6.

I’ve observed that MGP crashes everyday on my end without any apparent trigger from my side. I’m sure there’s something that’s making it crash in the background but nothing that I’m actively doing with MGP. :slightly_smiling_face:

For eg. I might be recording something on my MIDI keyboard or doing some edits with my mouse, and the app that was sitting idle will just crash on the iPad.

It usually happens once in a day, sometimes twice. But once I restart the app, everything is back to normal. But it would be good to investigate this further. If someone could guide me on how to log this, may be we can get to the root of this.

Also, this was happening with previous version of MGP and Metaserver as well.

Cheers,
VJ

VJ - I hope you have enabled sharing the crash logs with the devs. We are actively analyzing all the crash logs received and implement fixes in each release. We have noticed that iOS can kill an app after some time of inactivity or when prioritizing memory for some internal operations like iCloud syncing. Anyway, we are doing our best to fix everything coming our way from the users.

‘Enable Logging’ is tuned on for both MGP and Metaserver & I’ve just set it to ‘Debug’ from the prior ‘Info’ mode.

Please let me know if there are any other additional things that I need to do on my end.

Also , I usually only have MGP running on the iPad, so I’d surprised if that’s the reason it gets shut

I have the exact same issue. Support told me that iOS was killing the app and that it would probably be related to low memory issues on my iPad 9th generation (which has the smallest RAM of the lineup). However others with even older entry-level iPads told me they run fine. And now you display the same behavior with a top of the line iPad. This is a bug and I hope they find it cause I’m about to give up on this app entirely.

The support told me this could be the likely issue as well. But I don’t think they have written it off just as that. I’m inclined to believe that this might be some optimisation issue due to the new button press animation. But for me personally, it’s a small annoyance rather than a big hinderance. I’m sure the devs will fix this. I have found them to be quite active on the forum and receptive of feedback. MGP has become a core-integral part of my workflow now, can’t think of operating without it.:sweat_smile:

The logs you have sent us indicate that iOS is killing MetaGrid Pro - it can happen on some memory consuming activities like photo/file syncing done in the background by iOS. We are actively investigating the issue and gathering the logs.

Greetings,

I have started to get a crash on app start-up? Latest version of MGP and Metaserver with MGP running on an iPad with iOS 17.1.10.

No crashes before the update.

When I launch MGP the screen remains black and then the app terminates and the iPad returns to the home screen. This is also consistent behavior after an iPad re-start.
I have 8.8gb free space on the iPad.

Additionally, when I double click the iPad home button (to see which apps are running) I can see the MGP app still running so I touch to open, the screen once again goes black and after minute or so returns to the home screen.

Hope we can figure this out?

Thnx.

@Tinpigmusic send an email to help@metagrid.app - with iOS, macOS, MetaServer and MetaGrid Pro versions info. We will take it from there.
