Metagrid Pro 1.7 - app keeps crashing

1. Summary/Title
since the app updated to the latest version 1.7, the ipad app (on ipad pro ipad OS 17.7.10 ) keeps quitting every few minutes. When activated again, it acts normal, no connection issues, but it keeps crashing. Same feedback from colleagues with similiar setups: Mac Book Pro M4 Max, 128GB RAMm Tahoe 26.2, my colleague is still on Sonoma, same issue.

2. Steps to Reproduce

  • Step 1: activating ipad app by pressing the icon
  • Step 2 connection established, working normally
  • Step 3: crash after a few minutes
  • Step 4: repeat

6. Device Information

  • Operating System (OS version): Tahoe 26.2
  • MetaGrid Pro version: 1.7
  • Device Model (e.g., iPad, Mac): Mac Book Pro M4 Max, 128GB RAM, iPad Pro, iOS 17.7.10
  • Affected software version (e.g., Cubase 14): Cubase 15.0.21, meta Grid app 1.7

Im experiencing the exact same issue.

Created an account just to reply to this thread and share that I’m having the same issue and it’s grinding my work to a halt. Since the latest updates MGP crashes every 2-3 minutes. Any chance of a hotfix ASAP?

Hey all!

Quick follow-up: I’ve managed to make the crashing dramatically less frequent (roughly 20x for me) — not a cure, but enough to actually work again while we wait for an official fix.

On my older 6th-gen iPad it seems like MGP was simply using more RAM than the device could handle, so it kept getting killed. Granted the device only has 2GB total of RAM, but still.

Here’s what helped:

1.) Backed up my setup (in-app export — and I verified it by importing the backup into the desktop app first)
2.) Deleted the MGP app
3.) Reinstalled it from the App Store
4.) Restored from the backup

That seems to be the bulk of it. I also cleared out some grids and profiles I wasn’t using, which probably trimmed things further, but I’d try the backup/reinstall/restore first.

Just make sure your backup is actually good before you delete the app, so your grids are safe.

Kyle - thank you for the report. Metagrid Pro 1.7.2 will solve the crashing for good - should be out very soon - under Apple review now.
