Dear all Windows users,
We are working extremely hard to launch the totally new MetaServer for Windows that would ensure:
Awesome!! It looks great.
Will it still work with the old MIDI implementation? I never updated Windows 11 because I didn’t want to mess the MIDI implementation
yes, it will be backwards compatible
Thanks, that’s great!
Ever since upgrading from Metagrid Legacy to Metagrid Pro in February, I have had continual connectivity issues. With Legacy, I don’t think there was a single connectivity instance over many years. The exception was a few times when there was a new Metaserver, and it wasn’t ready to be released to the public, but fixed within a few days.
I turn off my Windows 10 PC every evening and turn it on every morning. Sometimes I turn off my iPad, other times I just quickly press the off button that iirc, puts it to sleep until the next morning when I power up my PC.
Next morning, upon Windows 10 start-up, Metaserver loads upon start up as it should, but when pressing the Metagrid icon on my iPad there is no connectivity.
Solutions:
unplug the usb, then plug it back in, and 80% of the time I get connectivity. But this isn’t a good long term solution as it will wear out the iPad jack.
Completely turn off my iPad, then restart. 50% of the time it will connect.
Completely turn off my iPad, then restart, exit Metaserver, then open Metaserver and 50% of the time Metagrid miraculously finds my PC.
At no times has entering my PC name or taking a pic of the QR code been any help.
Theres got to be a better way. Am I alone with this issue or am I missing some thread here that addresses this?
I have found that the following sequences of actions work pretty much every time. I’m on Windows 11.
Method 1 - In this specific order:
Close MGP on your iPad(s)
Close Metaserver
Launch Metaserver
Launch MGP.
Method 2 - In this specific order:
Close MGP on your iPad(s)
Unplug your iPad(s)
Close Metaserver
Launch Metaserver
Launch MGP.
Wait for Radar screen - plug in iPad(s)
Thank you for the reply.
When you say “close MGP on your iPad” do you mean press the right iPad button that takes you back to your Wallpaper where other icons exist? And then you press the MGP icon again that is going to somehow refresh everything and give you connectivity? That never happens for me.
Unless I unplug my usb, then plug it back in, I typically must go to iPad Settings>General>Shut down. Then re-start the iPad. Once I re-start, it’s a crap shoot if MGP connects. However it seems once I re-start my iPad, and it doesn’t connect, then if I close and re-open Metaserver, I’ll then get the radar and eventually connectivity.
Connectivity behavior seems to be very inconsistent.
Method 2 does work…usually but not always. However daily unplugging-re-plugging the usb jack is quite a bit of wear and tear on the Ipad I would think.
I don’t see many here posting these issues, so I think my system must have something set wrong.
I should add to what I wrote above, that after I shut down my iPad, then re-start the iPad, select MGP and it goes into “preparing” mode with those block looking things. But then, sometimes still no connectivity. But then if I close and re-open Metaserver, most of the time I get the radar thing and connectivity.
I have no clue about what “preparing” is doing as opposed to the “radar scan.”
@MetaGrid_Admin if this should be a separate post feel free to move it. I have no clue what your MetaServe 6 for Windows will do for my issue. I have had issues with this since the beginning of MGP after many years of using Metagrid Legacy.
Nope. That’ just backgrounding it AFAIK. Check this video out for how to actually close it. It’s like a slow drag up from the bottom to get the arrow and then another slow drag up to the top right kind of movement. And then a flick off the top right of the screen. Way too complicated IMO.
