I was recently pleased when Metaserver 5.1.1 was released. It provided much snappier responsiveness. BUT Metaserver consistently fails to connect to my two iPads. And the incoming MIDI functionality is not reliable - it will cut off at any moment. I have to close and restart Metaserver in order to gain back the functionality.
I have other apps, namely Remote Mouse, that never loses connection with my PC.
We can’t replicate it on our test systems. So on your setup one of the iPads (not both) loses the incoming MIDI, right? WiFi or USB?
Yes, it only happens to one iPad at a time. Usually my 2nd iPad. Though I’m not sure which USB port it is plugged into.
My incoming MIDI is coming from Bome to set Latching Switches to the correct state when going between grids. Yesterday I was having a lot of trouble it whilst working on something that required jumping between apps frequently. I must have lost incoming MIDI 20 times. Today it was okay.
Does Metaserver track focused apps in order to carry out Dynamic Focus Tracking? I just realised I have it on since the last update. Could this be the problem as it mainly happens when jumping back and forth between apps.
And connectivity is very unreliable. I must unplug and plug my USB cable multiple times just to get a connection. I often get the red ‘Failed to connect’ prompt. But mostly the ‘No Computer was Found’.

This comment relates to one iPad setup as well?
I just ran a test with a one iPad setup. The test was done by quitting Metaserver and restarting it 5 times. Results were:
iPad 1 connected 5/5 times.
iPad 2 connected 5/5 times.
Then I ran a test with a two iPad setup. Same method.
Results were:
- Both iPads connected
- iPad 1 connected and iPad 2 displayed an available USB connection which then worked on tapping it.
- iPad 1 connected and iPad 2 ‘Computer Not Found’
- iPad 1 connected and iPad 2 ‘Computer Not Found’
- iPad 1 connected and iPad 2 ‘Computer Not Found’
I ran the test another 10 times and iPad 1 responded immediately to Metaserver starting with the blue bar animation then ‘Success’.
iPad 2 responded with the ‘Scanning For Computers’ animation 10/10 times followed by either:
USB + Wi-Fi connection available
USB connection available
Computer Not Found
