As a MetaGrid Pro user, you know the value of smooth workflows and instant responsiveness. That’s why we’re excited to introduce a new feature designed to make your experience even more seamless: Grid Sync! This feature allows you to quickly transfer the grid you’re working on between different MetaGrid Pro instances connected to the same MetaServer instance—effortlessly bridging the gap between your devices.
New UI for Syncing:
• Settings > Controller ID: Specify the ID for each MetaGrid Pro instance on your iPad or Mac. This ensures MetaServer correctly identifies and routes communication to your desired target.
• Sync Button: Located in the Grid Selector popup for fast access.
• File > Grid Sync Command (Mac): Access the sync function directly from the File menu or use the handy Shift+S keyboard shortcut.
How It Works:
Initiate Sync: Click/tap the Sync Button or select the Grid Sync command from the File menu.
Select Your Target: MetaGrid Pro will show a Grid Sync alert with available MetaGrid Pro instances (excluding the source instance). Choose your target device or simply hit Yes if only one other instance is connected.
Grid Transfer: Watch as MetaGrid Pro works its magic. Your grid is sent to MetaServer, redirected to the selected target device, and the target instance switches profiles (if applicable) before prompting you to either create a new grid or update an existing one.
Instant Update: Hit Yes or Overwrite, and your target device’s grid is updated instantly—making your workflow even smoother.
This feature takes away the hassle of manual grid transfers, providing you with a fast, efficient, and intuitive way to work across your MetaGrid Pro setups. Whether you’re jumping between your iPad and Mac or working with multiple devices, Grid Sync keeps your creative flow intact.
Yesterday I wasn’t even getting the alert but today it works as expected although I haven’t changed anything. Will see what tomorrow may bring… Thanks.
Syncing grids from the Mac to iPad is still hit or miss for me. It will work for a few times, then stop. The workaround I’ve found to get it going again is to disconnect the iPad from the server and reconnect. Then it will work for a few more times. Dashboard on the iPad to the Mac seems unaffected.
Also with the new release when I sync from Mac to iPad when it works the iPad screen goes black until I futz around with it.
I have the same issue. The sync worked once or twice in past but it’s not consistent.
In my case I’m syncing from my MacOS M4 Max (Sequoia 15.3.1 and MG 1.6.15) over to my iPad (5th Gen, 16.7.12). Originally, I had the controller ID set the same on both devices, so I took care of that and it started working. Since then, my MacOS recognizes that the other iPad controller is there (I’m prompted to select it for sync), but nothing pops up on the iPad.
@jberdyck We will include more debug code for this issue in the next release - it works as expected on our test systems. We need additional info on this. Let’s park it for a short while until the next release.
