Feedback Wanted: Should the Lock Button Freeze Just the Profile or the Entire View?

Hey everyone :waving_hand:

We’re revisiting how the Lock button works in MetaGrid Pro, and we’d love your input before we finalize the logic.

:brain: Current behavior

At the moment, Lock Profile only freezes the profile — MetaGrid Pro stops auto-switching profiles when app focus changes.

However, Dynamic Focus Tracking (DFT), MIDI-based grid changes, or track-based navigation can still modify what you see inside that profile.

:light_bulb: Proposed new behavior

We’re considering evolving the Lock button into a “Freeze View” feature that:

  • Locks both the profile and the currently visible grid

  • Temporarily disables Dynamic Focus Tracking, MIDI-based grid switching, and other automatic navigation triggers

  • Still lets you manually navigate between grids if you wish

  • Unlocks everything with a single tap

In short:

Lock = Keep my current view exactly as it is until I decide otherwise

:magnifying_glass_tilted_left: Why this matters

Many users (especially live performers) want to prevent MetaGrid from jumping to other grids when switching tracks or scenes.

This broader Lock would make it safer and simpler — one button, one predictable behavior.

:ballot_box_with_ballot: We’d love your thoughts

  • Do you prefer the current Profile-only Lock?

  • Would you rather have the “Freeze everything” Lock?

  • Should manual navigation remain allowed while locked?

  • Any edge cases or workflow concerns?

Please share your thoughts below — your feedback directly shapes how this feature behaves in the next release. :folded_hands:

As I already commented on Facebook regarding this questioner, I would prefer to have locked Profile but with Dynamic focus tracking within the Profile ( Cubase : Mixer , Midi editor etc ).

Keep the current behaviour please. If you do make a change then you need to offer another means to lock the profile so that it doesn’t change if you change apps. As a Cubase and Resolve user there are many occasions when I open an explorer window or switch to another app, but I want MG to stay locked to Cubase. Also I sometimes have one ipad instance locked and another ipad unlocked which can work well. (Especially now two ipads are working again - yay!)

Bome MIDI Translator has an ‘App Focus’ function that will send MGP a CC message (activate grid message) based on which app is in focus.

You may not want to do it, but I’d say you need both. Make the choices in preferences, or do a one touch for profile, next touch for all. I prefer profile, as others mention I jump sometimes from Cubase to desktop and I prefer to not have MG jump. Although, it’s not that bad. I can see how a full freeze is useful too.

I totally agree, a preference or a gesture to choose between profile lock and grid freeze would be the ideal solution

My vote also goes to adding a preference item and letting the users choose how they want their MGP to behave.
