Quick question about Dynamic Focus Tracking in Cubase. I’m trying to set up a grid that pops up whenever the Key Editor is in focus.
The problem: it only works if I enter the exact full window title (like “Key Editor – Piano”). If I just put “Key Editor”, it won’t trigger.
That means I’d need a separate DFT entry for every track’s editor, which feels impractical. Is partial matching supported, or is it exact-title only right now?
Cubase’s window handling is archaic TBH. I have found DFT is hit and miss especially in Cubase. I get around this by using third party software, namely Bome MIDI Translator Pro (BMTP).
I would create a button, in this case it would be called ‘Key Editor Grid’ in Metagrid Pro (MGP) that sends a Note On, Control Change message or whatever to BMTP on port Metasystems - In. BMTP then sends a Control Change message to MGP on port Metasystems - Out, which tells MGP to display the Key Editor grid.
This approach is easy to set up and much more reliable.
DFT works ok for me in both my Windows 11 and macOS 14 machines and yes you have to put the common part of the name (for me “Key Editor” just works ). @JTB I understand how you trigger the grid via BMTP but how do you have the grid automatically show up when the key editor is open? What I mean is that if you want to have a MGP button open a grid there’s no other software that’s necessary, you just assign the open grid function to the button, so I’m just curios
Yeah, your right that you don’t need any other software on one iPad. But if you want that button to activate grids on two iPads, you need it to go through BMTP or some such.
