Cubase Render in Place - send odd midi

I’ve had this before and I can’t remember what the outcome was with a different function, I’m using the built-in Cubase menu command for Render in Place , which I’ve been using for four years with no problem . All of a sudden, I’ve got a new instrument from Westwood instruments, which is a Kontakt lib .. alternative grand , with that recording enabled and me hitting render in place, it completely changes the sound. At this point, I can’t work out what is being sent. Can anyone help with what I need to enable or change to stop this happening

Hi,

Could you try running Render in Place directly from Cubase’s menu, with the same instrument track selected and record-enabled? Does the sound change then too, or only when you trigger it from MetaGrid Pro?

Please also send:

  • A screenshot of the button’s complete macro in MetaGrid Pro, including the action type and target.
  • Your MetaGrid Pro, MetaServer and Cubase versions, and whether you’re on Mac or Windows.
  • The instrument track’s MIDI input selection—for example, “All MIDI Inputs” or a specific port.

As a second comparison, turn off record-enable and input monitoring on that track, then trigger the MetaGrid button again. Does the unexpected sound change stop?

These comparisons will help us determine whether the change comes from Cubase’s rendering behavior or MIDI reaching the instrument. We haven’t yet established what message, if any, is responsible.

This really had me confused, as the sound changes from a kind of ambient piano to something very distorted. Using the menu item, 100% does not change the sound, I’ll recheck your other questions and send you some more info.
