Setting up a 4x4 pads

I’ve been struggling to figure out how to create a simple 4x4 pad grid to mirror the chord pads/drum machine in Cubase. I’ve tried the Pads, Isomorphic Pads, and Single Pad (which would be ideal I would think but unfortunately requires too much space). Anyone been able to figure out how to set this up?

To create a simple 4×4 layout, first clear the existing buttons from the grid. Then create 16 buttons manually and arrange them as four rows by four columns.

Set each button to Momentary Switch, then assign the corresponding macro to each button for the Cubase pad or drum-machine action you want to trigger.

If this is not the type of 4×4 setup you are trying to create, please share a screenshot of the Cubase pads you want to mirror and describe what each MetaGrid Pro button should send.

Oh nice. Yup, working great. I don’t suppose there is any way to make them touch sensitive like the “pads”?

Yes. Replace the Momentary Switch buttons with Pads → Single Pad objects.

In each Single Pad object:

  • Enable Enable Touch-based Velocity.
  • Disable Show Velocity Section so the pad can fit within the 4×4 grid.

The pads will then generate velocity based on the touch position while retaining the compact 4×4 layout.

Yes, I tried those as well. They’re a little large to use for a 4x4 grid unfortunately. They require 5x7 and 7 is one too many to fit on to a single grid (at least on my iPad 9th gen). If they could fit on a 5x6 square this could work…although even this isn’t exactly ideal. What I was really hoping for is something that could fit into a 3x4 space so that I have room for other buttons along side the pads. This is what I have setup with the momentary latch buttons atm and the spacing works quite nice for my purposes. I suppose I can always create a link to a second grid when I’m wanting to play the pads but yes as of now the 5x7 is too large to create a 4x4 with the single pad objects on any grid as far as I can tell.

**EDIT: Actually I’m not sure how much I’ll be using the Touch Based velocity on these. I thought some new velocity sensitivity technology had been invented :grimacing: but I realize after playing with them that it only changes the velocity based on where you play the pad, the top (high) or bottom (low). Not quite as useful as I had hoped for so perhaps I’ll just stick to the normal 3x4 buttons I’ve already created. Sorry, for wasting anyone’s time/energy.
