Hello!
Question: Are you planning to add anything to MGP or MetaServer that specifically addresses multi-surface support? Right now, there’s nothing in the app that actually indicates that you’re using multiple tablets or surfaces and managing a multi-surface setup’s data integrity is entirely up to the user. This issue has been problematic. Even as a super-user of MGP, I STILL have moments of data getting overwritten because I missed delineating between my surfaces before saving or backing up. Just today, I overwrote a backup because I had done a restore a couple days ago in the middle of a workday and forgot to configure that tablet. The name of that tablet was not saved in the backup by default. So the backup I made before doing another restore is gone and now I have to rebuild that tablet’s setup from the smaller pieces I have saved. It just seems to me that if you’re going to promote MGP as having multi-surface support, then the app or MetaServer should recognize it at a basic level and protect your data without leaving the user responsible for all of it. A checkbox, a setting, ANYTHING that indicates that MGP knows there’s more than one surface would be awesome. Ideally, if you plug in a second surface, it would be great if MetaServer simply indicated something like, “You’ve connected a second (or third, or fourth) surface to MetaServer. It will now delineate these surfaces by default. You can change these at any time in MGP’s settings.” At that point, MetaServer would just add a .1, .2, .3 or SOMETHING to separate the identities of the surfaces so all saved and backed up data doesn’t get accidentally overwritten. As someone who’s used multiple surfaces for years now, it’s not a small task to keep track of data being used by both of them and make sure it doesn’t get lost.
A smaller thing to add. Full restores don’t bring back Profile Display Options with Override Dashboard Appearance activated in the case that the user has activated it prior to making the backup.
Thanks, M.
