A bug I want to report in MGP: Each time I’m in editing mode on one of the iPads (being them connected via Wi-Fi or USB) and the screen saver starts on the PC, the respective iPad freezes, forcing me to quit and restart MGP.

I use Logic Pro (12.2) and I really miss bi-directional communication (most probably I’m not alone), mainly for Volume faders, Pan and some buttons (mute, solo, etc), so I can use MGP as a real control surface. I know it’s probably not an easy task to implement MCU in MGP and write an MCU MIDI Device plugin for LP but I “envy” the people using Cubase and Live (actually you’ve spending some time developing a Python script for Live, so…), that can enjoy the wonder of having feedback from their DAW. Any possibility that this implementation will happen in the near future, It would be really appreciated!

Talking about Live, I also use it for some live gigs for years, with an old KORG controller, but now, that I’m getting used to the MGP versatility and further possibilities, I’m thinking of substituting it by one of the iPads running MGP, but I got a problem because I can’t get Live to “see” MGP as a Control Surface, despite all the Metasystem MIDI INs and OUTs are there (including Live - In and Live - Out), as you can see on the attached screenshot. I’ve tried many times to install and uninstall the script, quitting and restarting Live, restarting the machine and… no chance! Any help, please?

Here are the answers:

Ok - going to investigate and fix.

The bi-directional integration with Logic Pro is coming in 1.8.0 this summer.

Can you please check if the script files are residing in the Ableton Live user scripts folder in your setup? They should be installed from MetaServer to the right path - but perphaps they should be placed somewhere else on your setup? Please check and let me know.

Problem already solved, thanks! My Live’s User Library folder is at an external drive and MetaServer installs the script into the default User Library folder, so Live can’t “see” it, that was the problem.
Here’s a tip for anyone that will face the same problem I did:
As Meta Server installs the script into ‘~/Music/Ableton/User Library/Remote Scripts/’, ignoring the path where your User Library folder actually resides, what you must do, before installing the script, is to create a Symlink for your User Library folder (an Alias will NOT work!) and move the Symlink to ‘~/Music/Ableton/’. After this, goto the MS Integrations menu, install the script, and it will be in the correct place. Live can now “see it” and Metagrid Pro will appear as a controller on the drop-down list of your Live’s Control Surfaces.
MetaGrid Pro 1.7.4 and MetaServer Mac 6.1.4 are now publicly available and include coordinated improvements for the sleep, screen-saver, wake and connection-recovery problem reported earlier in this topic.
In particular, unavailable Mac states are now deferred while MetaGrid Pro is in Edit mode, and current Mac state plus USB/network discovery are reconciled when editing ends or the Mac wakes.
Please update both MetaGrid Pro and MetaServer and repeat the original test: enter Edit mode on the iPad, allow the Mac screen saver or sleep state to begin, then wake the Mac and leave Edit mode.
If MetaGrid Pro still freezes or remains unavailable, please let us know which Mac state was active and whether the iPad was connected through USB or Wi-Fi.
The Ableton custom User Library installation and broader Logic Pro integration requests remain separate from this hotfix.

Just installed MGP 1.7.5 and MS 6.1.4 and tested both iPads in edit mode, connected via WiFi as well as USB, with the macOS screen-saver active and everything runs smoothly with no surprises, MGP ignores the screen-saver while in edit mode, just as it should. Mac sleep/wake is also working fine. So, I can attest the bug was smashed and is now dead… good job guys!
Thanks a lot for your wonderful work and I’m looking forward for the bi-directional integration with Logic Pro. 
Thank you very much for the detailed verification report, Schroeder. It is especially helpful to know that edit mode and sleep/wake recovery are working correctly across two iPads, over both Wi-Fi and USB, with MetaGrid Pro 1.7.5 and MetaServer Mac 6.1.4.
