How to set a profile a default

Hello, sorry for this dumb question but I cannot figure out how to make meta grid always start on the same profile.

I want it to start on the Cubase profile, instead it always start on the “desktop” profile. Sometimes it revert back to the desktop profile when the iPad goes to sleep.

Also, is it possible to export a profile from the iPad back to metagird on macOS (I did it the other way around). Is it possible to have both macOS and iPad version stay always in sync ?

thanks

Hi,

Not a dumb question at all – MetaGrid Pro can be a bit confusing here. Let me walk you through it.

1. Make MetaGrid Pro always start on the Cubase profile

You can control this using the Fallback Profile:

  1. On the iPad, open MetaGrid Pro

  2. Go to Settings → Automation & Scripting → Fallback Profile

  3. Select your Cubase profile as the fallback

From now on, MetaGrid Pro will always show your Cubase profile whenever there’s no specific profile assigned for the app that’s currently in focus on your Mac.

A couple of important details:

  • If you have app-specific profiles configured for certain apps (e.g. Finder, desktop tools etc.), those will overridethe fallback when those apps are in focus.

  • When the iPad wakes from sleep or reconnects and there’s no matching app profile active, it will go back to the fallback profile (Cubase) instead of the Desktop one.

3. Exporting a profile from iPad → macOS

Yes, you can export from the iPad back to the Mac:

  1. On the iPad, open the profile you want to export

  2. Tap Share / Export icon and save it as a .mgp file

  3. Send that file to your Mac (AirDrop, email, etc.) or save it to your iCloud Drive.

  4. On macOS, click the shared file or go to the Content Manager in MetaGrid Pro, tap import in the Profiles area, select iCloud and import your profile replacing the existing one.

4. Keeping macOS and iPad always in sync

Right now there is no automatic two-way sync between the macOS editor and the iPad.

Hope it helps.

thank you, got everything working

I would have never guessed to look in “automation and scripting” tab to set the default profile at startup
