this new feature is awesome! And just to be completely greedy, when will we get access to some of Dragsquares lovely VI templates?
Brilliant grids and styles! A masterpiece!
It would be so useful to see a video of how you use them.
( And the idea of sharing user grids is very welcoming thing )
If Metagrid developers could implement some similar grids in the future updates.
Just to let you know that we are actively working with @dragsquares to bring his great creations to MGP
Interesting…there is still nothing in this thread about actually assigning articulations in Cubase, just key switching them. Which is not particularly helpful when programming instruments with MIDI.
I know my solution is clunky, but are we willing to wait another x amount of years for Steinberg to implement a way to assign articulations?. Afterall, we have been requesting an Expression Map update for a decade.
Metagrid could very easily allow mouse X and Y axis movement base on screen resolution and then a generic 60 button grid with a generic 60 slot Expression Map. And then the user can just set up the Key Editor to work with it.
Hang on… I’ve already done all that. LOL
Drop me a line if you’re interested.
I’m really interested in your clunky solution . I made my own clunky and partial solution with a Streamdeck plug-in that moves the mouse to specific x and y coordinates; I just use a Streamdeck button to click on the info line articulation field and then I use the arrow keys to move along the articulations menù (btw, I use attributes expression map and not direction). I really would like that Metagrid could implement mouse movements as an action, I hope this is on the roadmap for future updates
We are currently testing the in-build solution in MetaServer to enable articulation assigning in Cubase - more info coming soon.
Streamdeck does indeed have some nifty add ons when it comes to making macros that work with fixed screen positions. It would be great if Metagrid could embrace mouse control.
On the subject of articulation control, here are screen shots of my grids for two audiobro libraries - MSS and Eternity. These have some of the most complex control interfaces of instrument libraries.
Nice grids!. Have you considered using Bome MIDI Translator Pro? It can save a lot of space in your grids when it comes to faders. I only have one fader on my main grids and then I have buttons called Mod, Expression, Velocity and Filter etc. which I use to transform the fader with BMTP. These buttons highlight to let me know which function the fader currently has.
This is very exciting! It’s the reason I bought Metagrid. Any ETA for the articulation updates? I’d love to test it out. I just updated my Cubase orchestral template using BabylonWaves Expression Maps and would love to have this functionality!
any news as to when we’ll start to see @dragsquares ’ templates available? It’s time to start rehashing my writing template!
I would love this. Articulation switching is a big missing part of the Cubase integration with MGP vs. what Logic has.
I would like a grid screen (or is it scene?? ) on MGP to - when an Instrument or MIDI track is selected - read all of the available articulations from the Expression Map (usually Art Conductor) on the Cubase Instrument Track, and display the articulations as a grid in MGP (ideally with the same articulations in the same position so I can develop muscle memory). Pressing one of the articulation buttons
Currently, I’m using Keyboard Maestro to “find by image” the articulation box in the Key Editor and select the articulation in there from the dropdown. I used Attribute-level Expression Maps. But this only works for setting articulations on notes that are already input in the Key Editor.
A BONUS would be if the articulation selection buttons could be set to (also, or instead) play the KEYSWITCH for the articulation when pressed, so that the articulation could be switched on the fly when playing in notes during recording.
I guess I’m thinking of having a "Note Edit"mode vs. “Play Input” mode for the Articulation Switch scene, and also allowing both modes to be active simultaneously.
Create a grid with an instrument’s articulations on it e.g. 1st Violins. Make each button send the Expression Map (EM) Remote Key for each corresponding articulation in the 1st Violins EM. When you press the 1st Violins button in your main grid to select the 1st Violins track in Cubase via the Project Logical Editor, the Secondary Action for that button in MGP displays the 1st Violins grid.
Thanks for the suggestion, but having to do do that for the 400 different instrument tracks in my template would take an inordinate amount of time.
Plus, it seems like redundant work manually creating - what are essentially - articulation maps for each instrument in MGP given the existence of Cubase Expression Maps (Art Conductor by Babylon Waves). Since they already contain a map of all the articulations for the track and are “linked” to the track, if there was some way for MGP to receive/read that map when a track is selected, then all MGP has to do is display it in the grid as buttons.
I’m sure there are technical hurdles to this - otherwise it would exist by now - but just wanted to share the “ideal” UX. Essentially, it’s what the MGP Logic Pro Articulation Switcher does.
@dragsquares is working very hard on them - we need some more time though. But it will be worth waiting for.
