Hi All
Hoping someone can shed some light on this, Have spent a long time setting up different windows for arrange/midi/mixer windows in cubase on a single screen. I get it working, however, every single time I close down cubase, or put the mac to sleep, that connection which is sending the info on which window is active stops dead. Getting it all working again is no small feat, and usually involves turning the mac off/on, closing/opening MG, turning DFT off/on.
I can tell the MG is not receiving the window info as ‘paste title’ doesn’t fill.
To make it more confusing, the ‘Track’ focusing which i have for strings/brass etc is more reliable, and switching mac apps (finder/spotify etc) continues to work as normal.
I know Przemek has written that some the cause of the issue is the OS, and we’ve communicated over support as well. I’m just more confused as it continues to know which app is active.
Does anyone know where this info is being sent from on the OS? I’m not 100% convinced its not something going on with MG but I’m trying to troubleshoot where exactly the issue is coming from.
Just wondering if anyone has any tips, advice. Is there a preference or something I’ve missed
Thanks all
Well to add onto my own post, have discovered something. When putting the mac to sleep and waking up again, the midi remote script for selected channel becomes ‘Disconnected’ have not been able to figure out a way to re enable the script.
What now is a real head scratcher - is the ipad I want to be following tracks for articulations has stopped working, but the window based ipad seems to be switching grids just fine (at least for now)
AND
The metagrid Sync in/out is no longer available from this drop down.
This is all from putting the mac to sleep. Still unsure how to get this all up and running again, and unsure how simply sleeping the mac causes all this stuff to undo its self.
This is Cubase issue - we are investigating it. It seems that Cubase:
- Stops sending the window name info on sleep.
- Makes the ports assigned to MIDI Remote devices unavailable - but they are visible in the system - any external MIDI monitor can see/receive data.
We will finalize our testing and will contact Steinberg about this.
Hiya
Thanks for the response.
Can I just clarify a few things.
What is the midi remote ‘Selected Channel’ Responsible for? Is the window tracking or the track selection?
Can I turn it off? I don’t use the (very well designed) cubase channel controls in the latest MG update.
Here is the breakdown for the handling:
- Window Title
Changing grids/scenes by Window Title and Application Name is handled generally by the solutions based on the general operating system APIs and are universal for all application support in MetaGrid Pro. The Window Title scene/grid switching is available for all applications on Mac/PC in MetaGrid Pro. Not only Cubase. The operating system sends the current window title to MetaServer based on the data reported by the application that is currently in focus.
- Switching grids/scenes based on the selected track
This is handled by the MIDI Remote device named MetaGrid Pro - Selected Channel and it is Cubase specific.
Now, can you check on your system if window title grid switching works in other apps when you enable and disable the Sleep mode.
Hi thanks again for the reply. that’s helpful
I can confirm app based switching (spotify/finer etc) continues to work after sleeping.
