MetaGrid Pro 2: System Requirements and Free Upgrade for Early Supporters

Hi MetaGrid Pro family,

Przemek here. Since announcing MetaGrid Pro 2, we’ve heard two important questions: which systems will it support, and what happens to Early Supporter and Lifetime Premium access?

MetaGrid Pro 2 will be an upgrade to the existing MetaGrid Pro app, not a separate app.

Current planned OS minimums

  • iPhone app: iOS 17.
  • iPad app: iPadOS 17.
  • Mac app: macOS 14.
  • New MetaServer on Mac: macOS 13. If you run the app and MetaServer on the same Mac, you’ll need macOS 14.
  • New MetaServer on Windows: Windows 11.

MetaGrid Pro 2 will require the new MetaServer on either computer platform. Existing MetaServer versions will not work with Pro 2.

Intel Macs will not be supported for MetaGrid Pro 2. We’re still validating the remaining device and hardware combinations before confirming the release compatibility matrix.

To our Early Supporters

As a thank-you for backing us early, you’ll receive full MetaGrid Pro 2 Premium at no extra charge. There will be no paid Early Supporter upgrade or reduced Premium tier. Existing Lifetime Premium access will carry forward too, including for Early Supporters who also purchased Lifetime. You won’t need to buy Pro 2 Premium again.

We’ll explain the practical upgrade and entitlement steps as the release approaches. Thank you for helping us get this far.

Honestly, I have trouble hearing that while the app and Metagrid Pro 2 server will support Mac OS 17 and above…it will not support Intel Macs. I get the future trajectory of the Apple ecosystem but there are some Intel Macs like the MacPro 7,1 that will run MacOS 26 Tahoe just fine.

Transitions are painful and drawn out. I get that. But if the server will support a MacOS, it should run on everything that particular MacOS runs on as well. And the only MacOS that finally locks out Intel Macs is MacOS 27 Golden Gate and even then Apple is supporting MacOS 26 Tahoe for three additional years of current updates and support. That is quite a long time in the computer world.

You make a fair point, especially about keeping an established studio computer working with MetaGrid on an iPad.

We will carry out feasibility tests with the aim of supporting the new MetaServer on Intel Macs that can run macOS 13 or later. Your Mac Pro 7,1 falls within that group.

We will re-verify the new server’s installation, background services, connectivity and command execution on macOS 13-supported Intel machines.

Thank you for raising this.
