# Metagrid keeps disconnecting when in background - iPad Pro

Hello. I’m trying to use Metagrid Pro on my iPad Pro. My usual workflow is alternating between two main apps: TotalMix FX Remote (RME interface’s mixer app) and Metagrid Pro. I would like to jump between the two apps, having only one iPad, to use both of them. When I am on RME app for a minute or less, the app Metagrid keeps disconnecting when in background. I receive notification from MetaServer saying that the device disconnects. Is there a way to keep Metagrid or MetaServer active in background?

Thank you for reporting this. We have completed the investigation and identified  
the foreground-recovery problem responsible for the disconnection.

When MetaGrid Pro remains in the background, iPadOS eventually suspends it and  
heartbeat traffic stops. MetaServer can then retire the inactive session. When  
MetaGrid Pro returns to the foreground, it can still retain the previous cached  
connection state instead of completing a fresh connection automatically.

The correction has been scheduled for MetaGrid Pro 1.7.7. It will reconcile the  
connection when the app returns from the background, restore the saved session  
automatically when possible, and preserve the selected connection type rather  
than unexpectedly switching between USB and Wi-Fi.

MetaGrid Pro 1.7.7 is a focused hot fix and will be available very soon. Thank  
you again for bringing this workflow to our attention.
